How to Travel with Kids Internationally!

EUROPE – This is a winner for the family! From the beaches of Spain, to the Alps of Switzerland, to the wonders of Scandinavia, you’ll find the perfect destination for your family. Europeans love to travel, like you do, and they have family friendly activities at their favorite destinations too!

  • Rent an apartment, or home rather than staying in a hotel. Children will feel more at home. VRBO, Homeaway, Airbnb, or FlipKey.
  • Eat in occasionally so children don’t tire of the restaurant scene.
  • Traveling with children exposes you to places you’d not visit without them. Feel more like a local because you’ll be visiting less ‘touristy’ places.
  • Parks and playgrounds are a great way to mingle with the locals and get to know the area better.
  • Ask other parents for tips such as, grocery store, pharmacy, or best restaurants for children.
  • If traveling with infants or toddlers, diapers and wipes can be purchased at grocery stores,  pharmacies, or select airports.
  • In some European cities I’ve traveled to with children, such as Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Zurich, you’ll find baby food, such as purees, at the train station or airport.
  • Some European cities, such as Copenhagen, are very family friendly, with activities the children will love such as Tivoli Gardens amusement park, the zoo, and museums.

  • Plan into your day enough activities to keep both parents and children happy.
  • Rotate activities that are adults vs. children friendly (such as cathedral tour followed by a children’s museum).
  • Maintain a routine (e.g., don’t skip a meal) so children feel stability.
  • Remember less is better. Slow down, and enjoy the location.
  • Pick up a travel card if the city offers one for discounts on attractions.
  • Take turns visiting a museum or less child friendly exhibit with your spouse, while the other watches the children.
  • These destinations are winners! Mom and Dad get to experience the charm of a European city and children will enjoy the activities similar to what they’d fine at home.
